Bernhard Philipp Eder
Bernhard Philipp Eder, born 1984 and raised in Vienna, Austria, has devoted his life to the arts of music
from a very early age, when he began taking piano lessons and visiting classical concerts.
At the age of 15, while studying organ at the Konservatorium Wien University and attending the
Musikgymnasium Wien Neustiftgasse (Neustiftgasse Music High School Vienna), he made the decision to
become a composer and conductor. After High School graduation, he spent his obligatory military service
time as a pianist and arranger at the Military Music Department Vienna.
From 2005 till 2013, Eder studied composition with Martin Lichtfuss, Reinhard Karger, and Michael Jarrell at
the University of Music and Performing Arts, Vienna – also studying orchestration with Ertugrul Sevsay – and
graduated there as Magister artium (Master of Arts) in January 2013.
Since October 2016 he is working as an assistant teacher for one of the composing classes at the University
of Music & Performing Arts, Vienna.
In June 2014 he was present as a guest composer at the international „ensemble mise-en festival“ in New

In 2006 he won the 1st prize at the “Salieri Today” international composing competition.
From 2009 till 2015, he has also studied orchestral conducting at the Music University Vienna with Uros
Lajovic, Simeon Pironkoff and Johannes Wildner and graduated with his 2nd academic Mag. art. degree in
Eder attended conducting masterclasses with Bertrand de Billy, Fabio Luisi, Johannes Wildner and Naoki
Sugiyama. He has conducted such orchestras like the ORF Radiosymphony Orchestra Vienna, Hollywood
Chamber Orchestra, Kammerorchester Atout, Sinfonietta dell’ Arte (Vienna), Klaspärlimäng Sinfonietta
(Estonia), tonzauber Studio Orchestra and Pro Arte Vienna.
In November 2016 Bernhard was hired as a conducting assistant for the chief conductor of the ORF RSO
Vienna, Cornelius Meister, for the opening concert of the Vienna new music festival “Wien Modern”, with
the RSO Vienna.
In 2013 Eder also organised & conducted his own orchestral and vocal ensemble for the recording of his first
feature film score „Nostromo“ (an Austrian independent production).
His score for the Austrian shortfilm “Daydreamer” (2015), directed by Thaddäus Reich, was nominated for
BEST SCORE at the Maverick Movie Awards 2015.
For his recent score for the German shortfilm “Edge of the Wood” (2017), directed by Matthias Noe,
Bernhard has been nominated in the category Best Sound / Music at the largo Film Awards February 2017.
He regularly participated at the Hollywood Music Workshop in Lower Austria, under the instruction of
renowned film scoring professionals Bruce Broughton, Blake Neely and Conrad Pope. Additionally he has
conducted several of the workshops recording sessions with the ensemble there in 2012 & 2013.
Eder also works as a freelance orchestrator and arranger for such prominent organisations as Hollywood in
Vienna (The Sound of Hollywood/Hollywood in Taiwan etc.), City of Prague Philharmonic Orchestra,
Philharmonia Orchestra London, Opernhaus Graz, Vienna Synchron Stage, Max Steiner Orchestra Vienna,
GK-Filmorchestra and exil arte.
His arrangements are being performed worldwide by orchestras such as the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra
London, ORF Radiosymphonie Orchester Wien, Philharmonia Orchestra London and the City of Prague
